Georgia Baptist Conference Center
"He leads me beside still waters." Psalms 23:2
Springtime at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center, on the shores of beautiful Lake Louise in Toccoa, reveals God's beauty in nature through various flowers and foliage including hundreds of blooming azaleas and dogwoods. The warm summer months provide cool waters and plenty of outdoor fun. Fall brings autumn leaves, which is an attraction families, couples, singles, and senior adults always enjoy. In colder winter months, guests fellowship by the roaring fire in the stone fireplace of the King Hotel lobby. There is always a rocking chair for rest or relaxation and nature trails for those who like a little exercise while enjoying the beauty of God's creations. Let God lead you and your group beside still waters! Plan your next meeting, conference, or retreat at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center.
History Georgia Baptist Conference Center was built in 1963 when the Georgia Baptist Convention purchased the 900-acre land and conference center from R.G. LeTourneau. In the fall of 1940, R.G. LeTourneau opened the King Hotel Lobby and first floor rooms as a Bible Conference Center.
The beautiful Lake Louise did not always exist, but was created during the construction of the Georgia Conference Center. R.G. LeTourneau created the 200-acre Lake Louise with his earth moving equipment and he named it after his only daughter.
Over the years, the Georgia Baptist Conference Center has been used in many different ways and has had its share of history. In addition to being used as a Bible Conference Center, the building was used as a hospital during World War II and also by the Army Medical Corps.
The Conference center also served as a place of refuge in 1977 when the dam broke at Toccoa Falls. Some students and faculty who had been affected by the flood moved in for over six months. The center also served as headquarters for the Red Cross during that tragedy.
Accommodations The Georgia Baptist Conference Center can host groups of 15 to 1,000 overnight guests in the Griffith Hotel, King Hotel, Forrester Lodge, and cabins. Situated on the shores of Lake Louise is the 1,000-seat Garrison Auditorium, adjacent to the 300-seat chapel. Meeting space at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center is abundant. There are 42 conference rooms designed to meet the needs of each conference planner.
This picturesque retreat and conference center is also a favorite for campers. There are 22 spacious lakeside campsites complete with water and electrical hook-ups, a bathhouse, laundry room, and a waterfront covered open-air theater.
Churches and associations desiring the perfect location for their children's camps find it at Camp Tugalo. Tugalo is a rustic, serene, and secluded camp in a pine forest. This self-contained camp comfortably sleeps 60 and has its own dining hall and kitchen completely equipped.
Georgia Baptist Convention departments enjoy using the Georgia Baptist Conference Center for training and promotion of Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and State Missions. The Georgia Baptist Conference Center is ideal for Bible study, youth evangelism, and staff retreats. Events at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center can lead to revival, greater wisdom and continued spiritual growth.
Directions From downtown Toccoa, go east on Tugalo Street and turn left onto Prather Bridge Road towards Yonah Dam. Turn right onto Lake Louise Road. The entrance to the Conference Center is clearly marked a few miles on the right.
