Tugaloo State Park
Located in the Highlands Region of Georgia and situated on a rugged peninsula that juts into Hartwell Reservoir, Tugaloo State Park offers wonderful views from nearly all locations. Overnight areas are featured at water's edge offering a relaxing atmosphere and wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities. The name "Tugaloo" is an Indian name in reference to the river that once flowed freely prior to the construction of Hartwell Dam. The park presently sits on 393 acres and is packed with recreation amenities for the outdoor enthusiast.
Situated on a wooded peninsula, Tugaloo's twenty cottages and most campsites offer spectacular views of 55,590-acre Lake Hartwell in every direction. Some cottages even have private boat docks for overnight guests. Tent campers can choose between the developed campground or primitive campsites located a short walk from the parking area. The area has 117 sites and accommodates both tents and RVs. This park now offers pet-friendly cottages for an additional $40 fee per dog, up to two.
Fishing is excellent year-round, and large-mouth bass are plentiful. During summer, the lake is a popular destination for swimming, water skiing, sailing and boating. Both the Crow Tree and Muscadine nature trails wind through oak, walnut, mulberry and cherry trees.
This lovely state park has a long list of amenities that will surely satisfy a variety of tastes and ages. There are tennis courts, a swimming beach with bathhouse, two boat ramps and a miniature golf course. The park even offers seasonal canoe rental. Visitors to Tugaloo State Park will find a sandy volleyball court, horseshoe pits and regularly scheduled mountain music entertainment.

Directions
From downtown Toccoa, take Currahee St./Hwy. 123 to Big A Road/Hwy. 17 Alt. Turn right onto Big A Road. Go approximately 8.5 miles and turn left onto GA Hwy. 328/Poplar Springs Road. Go approximately 6 miles and turn left on Tugaloo State Park Rd. The park entrance is approximately 1.5 miles.
